Ecological Economics

Ecological economics is concerned with extending and integrating the study and management of 'nature's household' (ecology) and 'human-kind’s household' (economics).  This integration is necessary because the conceptual and professional isolation of these two disciplines has led to environmental and economic policies that are, in the long term, mutually destructive, rather than reinforcing.

Market Economics Ltd currently has a memorandum of understanding with the New Zealand Centre for Ecological Economics (NZCEE).  This allows us to combine our environmental-economic modelling capabilities with cutting edge research and ideas in the field of ecological economics.
Market Economics Ltd and NZCEE are jointly undertaking ecological economics research into the environmental impacts of the agro-food fibre industries, regional and urban sustainability, and the development of indicators for tracking progress toward sustainable development.  This includes development of the EcoLink database and ARDEEM (Auckland Regional Dynamic Environmental Economy Model) scenario futures model decision support systems.
